Relgious Rant (don't kill me)
By Clyde

Hey, this'll probably get me killed by some fanatic somewhere. Oh well. Here's what I have to say, take it or leave it.
Just don't take it literally or interpret it in some psycho way. That is what always ticks me off about Christianity, or at least some members therein. Actually, that's not it at all. I couldn't care less, because the Bible needs to be taken word for word, but with correct interpretation. The real problem is that nobody can accept the concept of being wrong. I find it especially common in those non-denominational people (I mean, I've met a fair few, and only about four or so are marginally logical and moral human beings).
Okay, I'm going about this all wrong. What I'm really trying to say is that SOME PEOPLE ARE SO FULL OF THEMSELVES, ARROGANT, STUPID AND RATIONALIZING THAT THEY CAN'T SEE TWO FEET IN FRONT OF THEM. I've tried getting in moral arguments with some people about this stuff. They can't budge from the Bible. Granted it has some good points, but I'd like to see them put it into context instead of just preaching and saying the chapter and each verse and all. The problem with these evangelists is that they have no idea how to reach people. Telling someone that they're wrong will not win points. Here's an actual conversation I've heard with one.
"If you were a Muslim, and a missionary suddenly came in and told you that you were wrong and needed to burn the Koran and follow the Bible instead, what would you do? How would you react?"
"I'd convert, because Christianity is the right religion."
"You would know that?"
"Of course; who doesn't?"
"Try the people whose family, for generations, has been brought up believing in Allah and Muhammad and have been taught that their way is the right way."
"But they should know that they're wrong."
"BUT THEY DON'T! They would not simply dump a thousand-year heritage to follow Christ because some guy who warned them they'd be damned otherwise told them to!"
"I would."
Well, you know what? He wouldn't. The people of all religions who are converted are converted by people who know how to reach them. Just going in and burning down their idols and villages and everything they hold sacred and tell them that it was the will of Jesus would NOT sway a damn person.
And if it does, that's not called true faith; that's called gullibility and weak-mindedness. And this person thinks that all non-Christians will suffer the fires of Hell and damnation.
Right. I whole-heartedly believe that Mohandas Ghandi will burn in hell because he was a Hindu. Never any of what he did. Oh, and if you didn't notice the sarcasm dripping from my words, it's there.
Faulty analogies and being so self-righteous doesn't make Christianity right. How can we prove it? There really was somebody named Jesus. But the stone-faced skeptics out there won't take that. How about the guy who created the Raelien religion? Yeah, he exists, but you don't see me following him. It's by example that we teach, not words. Missionaries would be more successful if they actually showed that they cared for the culture of the people (since the people and culture go hand in hand) AND asked them to follow the example of Jesus. Jesus had charisma, He had God's divinity, and He had that gift of eternal love and kindness that converted. We might not be God, but we can have eternal love and kindness. And that'll help "heal the sick" a lot better than a superiority complex will.
