Civilization?

Sunlight.
Water glistens like molten drops of gold,
Sky glows with heavenly glory,
Reflected off glass and metal,
Bringing the peacefully slumbering world to life.
Color.
Brilliant green grasses and trees,
Sapphire blue water,
Rose and amber sky,
Reluctantly, creatures arise to face another day.
Movement.
Birds spring from their nests.
Worms wriggle to the surface, unaware of the impending danger.
Bright-eyed felines return from another night of prowling.
A lone walrus barks in the harbor.
Chaos.
The peacefully silence is shattered.
Honking horns, machinery at work,
Train whistles in the distance,
What have humans done to this perfect place?
Gargantuan structures stretch forth towards the sky.
Garbage covers hard, impermeable asphalt,
Filthy brown smog blots out the sky,
Slime infests the water,
What purpose could all this serve?

Animals scatter in horror.
Trees are torn form the ground, roots and all,
Magnificent forests burned to ash.
All this in the name of civilization
What gives these creatures the right to rule the earth?
They tear it apart with no regard to any but themselves.
Nature is overthrown.
No longer is the earth pure and the air clean.
Man has claimed it as his own.
Years pass.
Things change.
Yet nothing gets better.
Pollution pours forth for the sake of cost-efficiency.
All leave the mess for some one else to clean up.
Where will it end?
The land lays black, barren, dead.
Nothing moves.
Silence reigns.
All that remains of the infestation are broken, shattered steel skeletons, the frames of the towering titans.
All this, brought on because a group of primates,
Hairy creatures that climbed trees,
Decided that they were the dominant force on earth.
What other race matters?
Survival of the fittest, they just let the others die.
Now all is gone.
They brought ruin to the quiet land.
They have reaped the seed they sowed.
If only they had known,
If only, they had caredÉ
