Finally!
The day has come!
After this, he is free.
He can do whatever he wants.
No more rules.
No more parents watching his every move.
This is it.
Graduation.

Four years of hard work has finally paid off.
All the struggle and sacrifice,
All the late nights and early mornings
were for this.

The assembly.
Receiving awards he never thought he’d win.
Sharing the joy with his classmates, friends, brothers and sisters.
They have grown so close after four years together.
They care as much for each other as they do for themselves.
For the last four years of his life, this has been his home.
It is his school.

The day is almost over.
He picks up his girlfriend and heads to a party.
This may be the last time he sees his old friends.
They hang out and have a great time.
All is perfect.
It doesn’t get any better than this.

He’s had a few drinks, but who cares.
It’s graduation night.
HIs girlfriend catches a ride home with a friend.
He sticks around to talk some more.
After all, this is his last chance to see his friends.

Hours pass, as do a few more drinks.
The day has long since ended.
To his deep regret, he has to go home.
He starts his car and sets out,
never to arrive.

A life lost, a dream destroyed.
The world is within your grasp
only to slip through your fingers.
The wise learn from other’s mistakes.
